Detailed Description |
Hello, I'm Emily. I'm moving to Canberra for work and leaving behind my two lovely housemates and an empty room. That's enough about me :)
The place, in the corner of Carlton Street and Nicholson Street, has to be one of the most perfect locations in Melbourne. Right on the 96 tram line, Carlton gardens is literally your front yard. It's a hop, skip and jump to Brunswick Street on one side, and about the same to Lygon Street on the other. That means two supermarkets, about five REALLY good icecream venues and uncountable excellent coffee shops bars and food options within an easy 10-15 minute strolling radius. You can walk to the city easily, and round the corner is the bicycle artery of Canning Street. Seriously, it's perfect.
The house is imperfect, but quiet, safe and perfectly functional. It's a clean, newish but relatively charmless apartment building, ground floor. The kitchen is pretty new, and has gas cooking, and there's plenty of fridge, bench and cupboard space. The bathroom you'll be sharing with John, and he's very considerate. The lounge room has space for furniture if you have any, no worries if you don't. The tv stays pretty much on SBS or ABC the whole time because Kevin is allergic to ads. The area is really quiet, stately and beautiful. We even know our neighbours, and they're very nice. It isn't a party place but it has a community feeling.
The room itself is on the cozy side. It has a generously sized built-in mirrored double wardrobe, queen sized mattress, chair, lamp, desk with shelves and set of drawers all included. It has wonderful sunshine in the mornings from the window which looks out into a private courtyard. There is an underground car park.
You'd be living with two guys in their thirties: Kevin, who is a consultant working in the city, and John, a doctor alternating work between the city and Geelong. They're both lovely. They're also both Irish, so be prepared for jokes that become in increasingly poor taste the better you get to know them. Kevin is a fan of the tv show Air Crash Investigations, as he channels his nervousness about flying into armchair pilot qualifications. John is the only person I've ever met who likes muscle cars and golf and bikram yoga. It's a fairly loose-knit house, we all have our separate lives but enjoy a cup of tea and a chat in the evenings, and the occasional beer on a Friday/breakfast on a weekend together.
You're likely to fit in well if you're considerate, kind, easygoing and reasonably tidy. Students and international workers welcome. Kevin needs to work from home sometimes, so it's probably best if you do most of your work offsite. We might think about pets on a case by case basis, drop us a line. Ditto on the gender thing, the boys want a girl in there to avoid it becoming too much of a bachelor pad, but I think that's a silly filter that could screen out someone great, so if you're male and great and interested in the house write a nice email and I'll put in a good word for you.
Rent is $1008 per month, due on the 10th each month, this includes unlimited wireless internet. Bond is also $1008. We split the electricity etc bills, they're pretty standard. It's available from the 19th, we'll be interviewing people this week. We're looking for someone to stay more than six months.
If you're keen or have questions, drop me an email to emilykbyrne@hotmail.com. Please include some information about yourself, we'll prioritise people who write nice emails. Let me know when you might be free to come and see the house and have a chat.
